Medical Officer - Registered Nurse |
| Job Description: |
Medical Officers (Registered Nurses or higher level certification preferred) are needed for each of our resident camps (Aquehonga, Keowa, Ranachqua). Leadership opportunities are available for applicants with managerial experience.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Currently licensed physician, physician’s assistant, nurse practitioner, registered nurse, licensed practical nurse, emergency medical technician, or other person acceptable to the permit issuing official.
- Possess current (within one year) RTE certification or equivalent.
- Possess current CPR/PR certification or equivalent.
- Hold a valid drivers license, and safe driving record.
DUTIES:
- Supervise health and sanitation of the Camp assigned.
- Ensure compliance with standards of the Boy Scouts of America and local, state, and federal laws or ordinances relating to medical care.
- Record all injuries, illnesses, and reportable diseases in a bound medical log book.
- Reports the following to the Reservation Director, for reports to New York State Department of Health within 24 hours:
- Injuries that result in death or require hospitalization or resuscitation.
- Head injuries that require referral to a hospital or other facility for medical attention.
- Lacerations requiring sutures.
- Injuries that involve bone fractures.
- Allegations of physical or sexual abuse.
- Illness suspected of being water, food, or airborne or spread by contact.
- Implement medical plan within camp assigned.
- Conduct medical/health re-screening in camp assigned.
- Maintain medical alert sheet for assigned camp.
- Monitor health, safety, and cleanliness of all facilities at assigned camp on a daily basis. Report deficiencies to Camp Director and Medical Director and ensure corrective action is taken.
- Administer medications as directed. Responsible to find individuals (no shows) to give medication, maintain medication flow sheets on campers and staff and return to each camper at the end of the session.
- Follow camp rules and regulations pertaining to smoking, use of alcoholic beverages and use of drugs.
- Manage personal time off in accordance with camp policy.
- Check, issue and maintain first aid equipment for designated areas and key locations in camp including camp vehicles. Provide first aid supplies for trips out of camp.
- Respond immediately and appropriately to all emergency horns and whistles.
- Maintain regular health service hours.
- Ensure each staff member and camper has on file a health history and examination form, as required.
- These are not the only duties to be performed. Some duties may be reassigned and other duties may be assigned as required.
